राष्ट्रपति रामनाथ कोविन्द ने रविवार को हरिद्वार स्थित दिव्य प्रेम सेवा मिशन के रजत जयंती समारोह को सम्बोधित किया। उन्होंने दिव्य प्रेम सेवा मिशन को संकल्प और सेवा की भावना के साथ मानव कल्याण हेतु संवेदनशीलता से कार्य करने वाली संस्था बताते हुए कहा कि आज से 25 वर्ष पूर्व इस संस्था को एक छोटे बीज के रूप में बोने में उनकी भी भूमिका रही है, जो आज बड़ा वृक्ष बन गई है।
राष्ट्रपति ने कहा कि उत्तराखण्ड की पवित्र धरती आध्यात्म् के साथ ही शांति एवं ज्ञान की भूमि रही हैं। गंगोत्री, यमुनोत्री, केदारनाथ, बदरीनाथ के साथ हरिद्वार व हर द्वार भगवान विष्णु एवं शिव की प्राप्ति के द्वार हैं। पतित पावनी जीवन दायिनी गंगा भी इसकी साक्षी है। उन्होंने कहा कि जब वे पहली बार राज्य सभा के संसद बने तब भी तथा राष्ट्रपति बनने के बाद भी उनकी पहली यात्रा उत्तराखण्ड की रही। उन्होंने कहा कि पवित्र गंगा के तट पर स्थापित यह मिशन मानव सेवा के लिए समर्पित हैं। संस्था द्वारा कुष्ठ रोगियों की समर्पित भाव से की जा रही सेवा सराहनीय है।
राष्ट्रपति ने कहा कि स्वतंत्रता के बाद संविधान द्वारा जाति एवं धर्म पर आधारित अस्पृश्यता का तो अंत कर दिया गया लेकिन अभी भी कुष्ठ के प्रति अस्पृश्यता का भाव समाप्त नहीं हो पाया है। कुष्ठ रोग को कलंक के रूप में देखे जाने की अवेज्ञानिकता के अवशेष आज भी देखे जाते हैं। कुष्ठ रोगियों के प्रति व्याप्त आशंकाओं को दूर करने के प्रयास किये जाने चाहिए। उन्हें भी बीमारी के दौरान तथा उसके बाद स्वास्थ्य होने पर अन्य रोगों से मुक्त होने वाले रोगियों की तरह ही अपनाया जाना चाहिए। इस सम्बन्ध में समाज मे फैली आंशकाओं को दूर करने के प्रयासों की भी उन्होंने जरूरत बतायी।
राष्ट्रपति ने कहा कि महात्मा गांधी ने भी कुष्ठ रोगियों की सेवा कर समाज को इसके लिये प्रेरित किया था। महात्मा गांधी का जन्मदिन राष्ट्रीय कुष्ठ दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है। उन्होंने कहा कि कुष्ठ रोग असाधारण नही है। इसे असाधारण समझने वाले ही असली रोगी है। राष्ट्रपति ने कहा कि कुष्ठ रोगियों के बीच कार्य करने वालों का आत्मविश्वास कितना ऊंचा होता है, इस संस्था से जुड़े लोग इसका उदाहरण है।

उन्होंने कहा कि दिव्य प्रेम सेवा मिशन ने, ‘नर सेवा, नारायण सेवा’ के मंत्र को समझा और एक कठिन कार्य को अपने हाथों में लिया है। कुष्ठ रोगियों के बच्चों के भविष्य को उज्जव बनाने का संकल्प लिया, उनकी शिक्षा और दीक्षा का संकल्प लिया, कला और कौशल विकास का संकल्प लिया यह सब असंभव को संभव बनाने जैसा है। ये कार्य एक सच्चा देशभक्त, राष्ट्रभक्त ही कर सकता है।
