मुख्यमंत्री पुष्कर सिंह धामी ने रेल मंत्री अश्विनी वैष्णव से पूर्णागिरी मेले के दौरान श्रद्धालुओं की सुविधा के लिए नई दिल्ली, मथुरा एवं लखनऊ आदि से टनकपुर के लिए पर्याप्त संख्या में रेल गाड़ियों का संचालन किए जाने का अनुरोध किया है।
रेल मंत्री को प्रेषित पत्र में मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा कि उत्तराखण्ड राज्य के जनपद चम्पावत अन्तर्गत टनकपुर में अवस्थित पूर्णागिरी शक्ति पीठ में चैत्र नवरात्रि से आगामी 03 माह तक प्रतिवर्ष पूर्णागिरी मेले का आयोजन किया जाता है। इस वर्ष यह मेला दिनांक 09 मार्च से 09 जून तक आयोजित होगा।
रेलवे द्वारा मेला अवधि के दौरान देश के विभिन्न स्थानों से टनकपुर हेतु अतिरिक्त रेल सेवाएं प्रदान की जाती रही है। किन्तु यह देखने में आया है कि प्रतिवर्ष मेले में आने वाले श्रद्धालुओं की संख्या में उत्तरोत्तर वृद्धि हो रही है। श्रद्धालुओं की यात्रा को सुगम एवं सुरक्षित बनाने हेतु इस वर्ष और अधिक संख्या में रेल सेवाएं प्रदान करना आवश्यक हो गया है। मुख्यमंत्री ने इसे दृष्टिगत रखते हुए देश के विभिन्न स्थानों मुख्यत नई दिल्ली, मथुरा एवं लखनऊ आदि से टनकपुर हेतु रेल सेवाएं बढ़ाने का रेल मंत्री से अनुरोध किया गया है।
